First, real quick. For you acoustic guys, these are not KOA. Koa comes from Hawaii. Korina comes from Africa. Although strikingly similar in appearance, Korina has a bit more of the rouge to her.

Now that we have that out of the way, let us take at look at 4 pretty ladies from the G&L Custom Shop.

G&L offers a new way for players to experience the near-mythical sonic and aesthetic allure of this much-sought-after tone wood. The Korina Collection includes four models:

* ASAT Bass
* ASAT Classic Bluesboy
* ASAT Deluxe II
* ASAT Junior II

Limited Edition – only 100 pieces of each model.

All four instruments feature 2-piece Korina bodies and Pao Ferro fretboards on Quartersawn Eastern Maple necks. Sporting sumptuous finishes and cosmetic appointments to highlight the natural beauty of these tone woods, the G&L Korina Collection is proudly made in the USA at G&L’s factory on Fender Ave. in Fullerton, California.

Korina instruments have long been among the world’s most collectable solid body guitars. Now G&L adds a striking new generation to this lineage. We invite you to explore each Korina Collection model and learn about the collaboration of the Custom Creations team which resulted in these stunning instruments.

You can check out the specs for each model above and to leave you with a little drool in the corner of your mouth, see below:

According to my father, a music historian (although only in his mind and lacking accreditation) and Wikipedia, in Bakersfield, California in the 1950s and 1960s, local musicians such as Bill Woods, Tommy Collins, Buck Owens, Merle Haggard, and Wynn Stewart developed a streamlined country music style called the Bakersfield sound, which emphasized pedal steel guitar, the Fender Telecaster electric guitar and intense vocals.

According to Summer NAMM 2011, a much more reliable source than both my father and Wikipedia, Jean Larrivee guitars has introduced the Larrivee Guitars Bakersfield model.

Now I can not a-test with 100% certainty that there is any connection between the “Bakersfield Sound” and the Larrivee Bakersfield but you know we here at Guitar Adoptions not only like to show of the newest and best gear but we hope you learn a little a something along the way. OK mostly we just love to show of the new and best gear. Fact or fiction aside, I can not think of a better Larivee to jam out on with in the spirit of Buck and Merle than the Larrivee Bakersfield, coming soon to Guitar Adoptions.

The Larrivee Bakersfield has a Swamp Ash body and will come in Butterscotch, Mary Kay White, Transparent Red and a Tobacco Burst.

Some snaps:

Visually stimulated? Good. Now on to some aural stimulation…

Throughout history and religion and mythology, the number 12 has played an important role.

There are twelve ‘ Jyotirlingas’ (epitome of God Shiva) in Hindu Shaivism. The Twelve Olympians were the principal gods of the pantheon. The chief Norse god,Odin, had 12 sons. The biblical Jacob had 12 sons, who were the progenitors of the Twelve Tribes of Israel. In the King Arthur Legend, Arthur is said to have subdued 12 rebel princes and to have won 12 great battles against Saxon invaders.There are 12 days of Christmas. And last but not least doughnuts are typically sold by the dozen, which of course is 12. (I know that people like to throw off the math with the whole baker’s dozen thing, but that’s for another post).

The point? “What are you driving at here?”, you may be wondering to yourself. The number 12 has proven to be a significant and relevant numerical expression, that to this day continues to be used to express impact, import and achievement. And Guitar Adoptions is proud to add that history by adding it’s own use of the number 12 to the annals of history. We do so humbly of course and by no means wish to compare our achievement with that of Arthur or Odin but we are proud of our accomplishment and want to share that pride with all of you.

Guitar Adoptions, in 2011 is celebrating its 12th anniversary. 12 years of bringing our customers the best equipment, the best prices and what hope to be the best service we can provide.

Now quickly we want to take a moment to thank all of the customers, fans, supporters and family members that helped to make this milestone a reality. And second to thank you for indulging the way to much time reading geeky books, fueled introduction for what we are about to show you. Fear not dear reader we have not lost site of why you read this blog. It’s about the gear, as much as I wish to convince myself it’s about my wit and charm, it’s about the gear and for our 12th anniversary have we got some gear to show you.

To celebrate our 12th year in giving voice to the song that is in all of you, Guitar Adoptions has teamed with Larrivee Guitars to bring to you a trio of guitars, (a number that divides into 12 by the way) that represent the quality and craftsmanship that we put into placing instruments, amps, and tools into the hands of our customers.

It is that time of year that owning a guitar really pays off for those off us that don’t actually make a living selling out stadiums and collecting checks from iTunes. A day that, although some would have you believe otherwise, a bow and arrow are not the most powerful weapon in order to woo a Mr or Ms. Right or Right now, I am not judging.

I will not argue the idea of a little half naked dude running around with some wood and string and causing folks to fall in love, however I must protest that the construction of that wood and string was not in the shape of bow and arrow but it was indeed in fact a guitar. Think about it. What better tool to use to express the poetry of love then a guitar. I know that Hallmark sells more cards with this romantic idea of the naked dude with wings flying around shooting folks in the heart but we all know, deep down, that the concept of naked dude sitting in front of his favorite girl and busting out a G chord is more likely and point in fact I have seen this event many times in college. But that is another post.

I made a resolution this year that I would start out 2011 in the black. Now in all fairness I did not designate that was going to be “in the black” ( yes I am doing air quotes as well even though you can’t see them), financially. And if I had my way, our Guitar of the New Year would not go very far in helping me to achieve that resolution.
