Okay, I'm home now, I've had some time to get acquainted with the my newest guitar (Larrivée D-03RW), and......
I love it!
Really, words can hardly describe it, but I'll try to capture all five senses (well, maybe not taste):
SMELL: the aroma upon first opening the case was the spicy yet sweet scent of rosewood (they should bottle this stuff, along with the scent of new car leather). Heavenly, IMHO.
SIGHT: This guitar is an understated, yet classic beauty. The Sitka spruce top shows off its straight, tight grain underneath the silky satin finish. The silking of the spruce gives it a 3-dimensional look as you turn it back and forth in the light. The top is bordered with a simple yet tasteful black strip inside the maple edge binding, very unique. The ivory fretboard is bound with creamy Ivoroid, as is the heel cap. Silver microdots mark the fretboard. Black pegs with white dots, another elegant, yet understated touch, anchor the Elixir strings in the ivory bridge. The back and sides are a beautiful dark reddish-orange and black rosewood.
FEEL: My one worry was that I would have trouble getting used to the 1-11/16" nut width, as I have been playing my Guild (1-13/16" nut) for so long. No problem. What really impresses about this guitar is the fantastically low action, with NO buzzes. Okay, if I play the 6th string at the 19th fret, there is a slight buzz. But who on earth plays way up there on the low E? I have two words for the feel of this guitar: SMOOTH and EFFORTLESS. Now on to what's really important - TONE.
SOUND: Words can't convey how perfect the tone of this guitar is for ME. Others may want an OM, or an L-body, or whatever, but give me a dread. Perfect balance from the trebles to the bass, incredible sustain, great response to a light touch, and no "mush" when I dig in with a pick. Which is hardly necessary, as ample volume is created by just a moderate strum. I couldn't ask for more.
Muchas gracias to Dave at Guitar Adoptions. Truly the guitar of my dreams, and the deal of a lifetime! More importantly, thanks to God for making me financially able to buy it.
Sorry 'bout the "novella", did I mention I really like this guitar?

Dear Dave,
I just wanted to drop you a note to thank you for the absolute best on-line buying experience I have ever enjoyed. Your help in selecting my new G&L bass was invaluable, and I am 100% pleased and satisfied and delighted with my purchase!
I have been playing guitar for over thirty years and bass for about 15 years. I play in all kinds of groups and in all styles. I have owned basses by Fender and Gibson and Ibanez and Conklin and Music Man and Schecter and Yamaha, but I have NEVER owned a bass like the G&L L-2500. As soon as I cracked it out of the box (and wiped the drool off of my chin after I saw the clear blue finish on the outrageous quilted top), I tuned it up and plugged it into my Ampeg SVT-350 and SVT-410HLF. With everything set flat on the amp, I started exploring the sonic possibilities of my new baby. Frankly, I am stunned. I have always been suspicious when people have said “this bass can do everything,” but in this case it may well be true. With the preamp off, it’s a piece of cake to dial in Precision and Jazz sounds. With the preamp on, well… whatever! It took me all of two minutes to tweak tones that SMOKED my Conklin (Bartolini + Aguilar) and my Stingray. The only thing this bass can’t replace is my Pedulla fretless, and of course I didn’t expect it to! Action was set up perfectly for me, the L-2500 plays like olive oil on al dente pasta (whoa, there’s a new analogy for ya!!). I took it to practice with my praise and worship group tonight, and our director asked, “What did you pay for that thing?” She was shocked when I told her, she was thinking I had popped thousands for some exotic boutique bass. I could not be happier… my quest for “that tone” is officially over. No joke, I played better bass tonight than I have ever played in my life. This instrument ROCKS.
Dave, you are a total pro! Thanks for cracking open all of the G&L bass cases and describing them to me over the phone! Buying an instrument sight unseen over the internet is a dicey business for a serious player, but you put my mind at ease. And as they say, the proof is in the pudding… I have no regrets whatsoever about this purchase. My days of pounding my head against the wall with Musicians Friend are over… from now on, I’m shopping at GuitarAdoptions.com! I’m putting the proceeds from my next gig into a piggy bank to start saving for a Larrivée 12-string, which I plan to buy from you
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I am one happy frickin bass player! You will be hearing from me again!!
Peace!

Dave,
I want to let you know that I appreciate your before AND after sales service. Your listening to what I wanted in a guitar's tone combined with your experience, insight, and advice were very helpful and have made me a satisfied customer.
Buying a guitar over the web is not a terribly daunting task as the expected worst scenario is the customer paying shipping both ways. But the discussions we had facilitated my satisfaction with the guitar purchase.
I'm not one to usually buy and flip guitars. The beautiful sounding and gorgeous looking all-Koa Larrivée J-10KK is an instrument that I will enjoy for many years if not decades to come. Everybody who sees and hears it is truly impressed: my sons, my girlfriend. I have not taken it out to play in clubs yet but that will happen soon. It is a visual show stopper for sure...but the tone is paramount most wonderful.
I also appreciate your advice on acoustic pickups for this guitar and anticipate purchasing a K&K Pure or Trinity from you soon.
There is a reason you have a good reputation on the Harmony Central and Larrivee Guitar Forums.

Dear Dave,
Thanks a lot for the good advice on the picking the Ultrasound Pro100. It arrived today safely, and I got to use on my Friday night Latin-Jazz gig. Wow, what a tone, my Archtop sounded warm and fat (like it's supposed to), and my Cordoba gut string sounded better than I have ever heard it through an amplifier. I literally unboxed it, and ran to my gig, and after a few minutes of noodling with the tone controls, my bass player was knocked out by my new tone. I can't believe an amp smaller than a deluxe reverb could put out this much QUALITY sound, the 100 watt power rating really shines at those outdoor gigs where you need a little more OOMPH. I appreciate the great advice, and super service, I will be sure to use you guys on my future equipment purchases.

Hi Dave,
Thanks again for all your help. You are a true gentleman & now a trusted friend. I am quite sure it is not very common for you to sell a person three (3) Breedlove guitars within a week.
The King Koa is now my personal favorite - just looking at her makes me want to fondle & play with her. The Mermaid inlay is superb - the sound is fantastic & she fits in my hand like a glove. My brother gave her a AAAA rating! AWESOME sound, AMAZING to hold, A**KICKING aesthetics & A+ for playability.
She plays sweet & warm & will only get better with age (like me - Ha Ha).
The Northwest is still a winner, although very difficult to compare with the King Koa - she does play a little brighter & loves to have her belly rubbed (strummed). Her sound is close to my Dell Arte Jimmy Rosenberg gypsy jazz guitar & I would never sell her.
I simply cannot wait until Tuesday when the CM Classic SE arrives with the Ebony tuners - Just wait until my brother meets her. I will probably sell my SD 25 Custom & pick up another more exotic lady from you very soon (probably another Breedlove in Rosewood - But She Must Be Special).
I cannot thank you enough for the prompt & special service that you provide, the great prices you post on these fantastic instruments or the time & advice given over the telephone - YOU ARE THE MAN!
Anyone in doubt or want a reference of Dave @ Guitar Adoptions:
Please feel free to call/e-mail me for references
He is the best!
All the best to you & yours & I look forward to many more future dealings & maybe coming to meet you in person & shake you hand & do a little playing, to see who really is a better player.

Hey Dave,
I received my Breedlove (SC20 Ziricote) from you right on schedule. I've been playing it since then, and all indications are great.
It sounds angelic, especially in alternate tunings. It's an excellent finger-picker; I've yet to use a flat pick on it. You were right to recommend the deeper body size; it's very versatile and still comfortable to hold on my lap.
It's body 'fits' mine perfectly. And I love the Breedlove neck (best in the business, IMHO). The Ziricote back and sides are beautiful.
You were a joy to work with. I hope to give you more business just as soon as my wife will let me, hehe! Keep up the good work.
Regards.

Okay Dave this Northwood R80-OO is the KING!
And I have no NO BUYER'S REMORSE!!!!!!
I wanted a Collings or Martin JB Pollywog but had heard good things about the 12 fret Northwood and having played a Northwood MJ Just thought I'd take a chance and I'm glad I did! Yes it projects, Yes it's easy to play, Yes its loud, Yes the sustain is something else! Right now I'm afraid to take it anywhere as I don't want to scratch it or harm it in any way! I live at the beach it gets windy and sand flies about and so on and so forth! But we are going on a long road trip together soon and I can't wait. For my style of Country Blues this is my perfect guitar! I think if John just concentrated on the MJ's and the R80-OO's his business would boom in a very loud way!!!!
Will be forwarding pictures soon!
Thanks, doing business with you was a treat even if you are a "Bears" fan!

Dave,
I just wanted to drop you a line and thank you for the great deal on the amazing Lakland Hollow body bass. I have purchased several instruments online and Guitar Adoptions has by far been the easiest to work with. Everywhere I play, I get feedback from players and non-players alike commenting on the ‘beautiful silver Bass.’
Thanks for your efforts—for once I have had a good instrument transaction online!

Dave:
I received my Ultrasound AG50DS2 yesterday (4/30/04). This amp is unbelievable. The sound is pure and it does everything I ever hoped it would and more. I'm going to sell my POD as I don't need it any more with this baby. Your service and price were the best I've experienced anywhere, and delivery was unbelievably quick.
Thanks for a great experience. I look forward to doing business with you again in the future.
